Got an Injury? Why Wait?
The maximum waiting time for non-urgent consultant-led treatments is 18 weeks. To be referred to a Physiotherapist for a musculoskeletal injury can take between 6 to 12 weeks (post code dependent).
After 6 weeks a person injury/symptoms can develop and negatively impact their activities of daily liv-ing. This can include decreased range of movement, decrease in strength, pain, swelling, abnormal movement of adjoining limb leading to dysfunction, unhelpful beliefs about condition.
Evidence shows ‘right care’ treatment should start 48hrs after injury. This is usually not the case with some people waiting up to 18 weeks and others not seeking any treatment but managing with long term symptoms.
If you are suffering from a recent injury and haven’t already sought A+E or GP attention PRICE protocol may alleviate short term discomfort and put you on the right track for a speedy recovery.
